Secrets
by
Tim Anderson is the printed & bound version of the online Flintknapping
Tutorial. It has a simple but informative format designed for the beginning
flintknapper. Included are modern and ancient tools, safety precautions,
heat treating using ancient or modern techniques - and heating temperatures
for many flint and chert types.
There
are chapters on pressure and percussion flaking,
notching
and fluting. Also includes information on preventing and dealing with hinge
or step fractures. A must for the beginning knapper. 32 pages, 8-1/2 x
11 format.
Tim
Anderson was raised on a farm near San Antonio, Texas. He spent his childhood
collecting artifacts found on his family's farms, and honing his lithic
illustration skills. He began his writing career at the age of 16 when
he published his first book, Indian Artifacts of South Texas, printed
in 1989. Related activities included the mastery of flintknapping, heat
treating, and experimenting with atlatls and darts. Tim's understanding
of local geology served the public well in his roles as tour guide at Natural
Bridge Caverns. He has also conducted flintknapping demonstrations at state
parks. These demonstrations were advertised in Texas Parks and Wildlife
magazine, and on TV. Tim is currently the Vice President and Senior Editor
for the World Flintknapping Society.
