Find a corner on the end of the tablet to strike the first flake
from. Hold this at an angle with the selected corner down as shown and
strike it with the billet. This will remove a short flake that can be used
as a platform.
Turn the tablet over and use the flake scar as a platform to drive
flakes off each side. Strike where the "X"s are in the illustration below
while holding the tablet at the normal angle (not tilted down).
Now turn the tablet back over and use the last two flake scars as
platforms to drive off two more flakes by striking where the "X"s are in
the illustration below.
Turn the tablet over and repeat the last step. Keep turning it over
and striking these flakes off until you have created an edge around the
entire tablet. It’s now ready for removing the cortex (see percussion
flaking).
